This week I return to the subject of my ongoing moving-home saga: approximately four months after putting in a successful offer on a one-bedroom flat wedged between the Thames, Bushy Park and Hampton Court Palace, my other half and I collected the keys on Friday 13th - hopefully a good omen - and moved in to our very first home the following morning.
Downsizing as we did from a rented, spacious, two-bedroom basement flat to a smaller, one-bedroom apartment was never going to be easy. Stood amid a multitude of boxes, bags and general clutter, we had no idea where to start. Slowly but surely, though, we worked through each one and, by the end of day two, made significant progress.
Our next task is to buy some space-saving furniture to accommodate the contents of the last remaining boxes: computer games, board games, DVDs, CDs, records, books and photo albums. We've already found an antique-style chest and a matching dark-wood coffee table and the search will soon begin for some shelving units to complete the look.
Numerous furniture solutions for smaller homes can be found on Interiorstalk. In fact, I just typed the words 'space saving' into the search box at the top of the screen and three pages of product stories came up. These included stylish yet practical items such as cabinets, bookcases, racks and even kitchens.
Fortunately, we don't need a new kitchen, but with some clever storage solutions and some pictures on the wall, I'm sure we'll feel right at home.
