With simple planning and minimal cost, under-floor heating makes stone a versatile material for the home all year round.

Jo O'Grady from Stone Age said: 'For anyone who loves the beauty, simplicity and practicality of stone flooring, under-floor heating is a very sensible option.

'For relatively little cost, it will distribute heat evenly, not only making the stone warmer but the whole house, so in this way it is also surprisingly kind to the environment.

'Especially in areas of the home where you are likely to walk barefoot, such as bedrooms, under-floor heating will feel luxurious, completely removing the chill off the floor,' added O'Grady.

Using a water pipe system that is laid underneath a customer's chosen flooring, under-floor heating is very eco-friendly, according to the company.

The water in the pipes is heated to a much lower temperature than if it were to be heated in a conventional radiator, therefore using less energy.

Under-floor heating systems can be powered by new heat sources such as a ground source heat pump, which utilises the heat from the ground.

Stone Age claims that these types of heat sources are much better for the environment than traditional sources and can eliminate fuel bills completely as they negate the need for gas, electricity or oil.

Under-floor heating evenly distributes heat throughout the home; removes the need for radiators; and helps to dry out and warm areas such as bathrooms and shower trays.

From granite to limestone, basalt and marble, Stone Age supplies and installs stone flooring, among other projects.
