Living in Space has fully refurbished a Grade II-listed property in Primrose Hill, London, providing the traditional period home with a complementary modern touch.

'We wanted to create a perfect balance of old and new interior styles while making the most of the wonderful Victorian features,' said Anita Kohn of Living in Space.

The company chose to hang Flos Glo-Balls, which are said to contrast well with the Victorian ceiling roses.

She added that she would always advise clients to look after original features, such as mouldings, windows, shutters and fireplaces that can be restored to their former glory.

Kohn said: 'By combining old and new styles in your home, you ensure that it will never look dated; you also give yourself the freedom to continue adding to it as time goes by, never limiting yourself to any particular period or style.

'Introducing antique furniture to a contemporary space creates a warm focal point in the room, while modern lighting juxtaposes with traditional furniture to add another layer to the eclectic style.

'Offset darker, wooden furniture with contemporary pieces in glossy white lacquer and choose whites and soft grey paintwork on walls for an effortless, chic finish.

'For the final touches, browse antique shops for vintage accessories, such as leather travelling trunks, which will contrast with contemporary art or sculpture to great effect,' she added.
