Aegon chooses KI's integrated storage systems
KI has provided Aegon, a provider of pensions, investments and protection, with a fully integrated storage solution for its offices in Lancashire.
The company has supplied storage and filing systems to Aegon since 1999; the company uses KI products throughout its UK office.
The Eclipse high-density mobile storage units have aisle-entry sensors and touch-pad control, limiting access to sensitive documents
Aegon had previously purchased KI 700 Series storage manufactured in Canada.
For the Lytham project, the KI 800 Series was chosen, providing the benefits of a UK-manufactured product, ensuring shorter lead times and a more cost-effective package.
KI's storage solutions were chosen to complement workstations from Sedus Stoll, providing the effective integration of the two systems.
In 2009, Aegon decided to refurbish its existing building in Lytham and contracted KI to supply its 800 Series laterals, 900 Series flush-front mobile pedestals and a bulk-storage installation featuring no fewer than 12 Eclipse high-density mobile systems.
The Eclipse high-density mobile storage units all have aisle-entry sensors and touch-pad control, limiting access to sensitive documents, ensuring compliance with strict Financial Services Authority (FSA) requirements for document management.
The installation was carried out as a phased project while the building continued to be occupied; this created challenging logistics.
Alan Jamieson, project manager at Aegon, said: 'I visited the KI showroom a couple of years ago to discuss the general lateral storage and pedestal requirements and, while there, I was very impressed with the Eclipse high-density mobile storage system, especially by the amount of floor-space saving it achieved and the excellent safety and security features it incorporates as standard.
'I ended up ordering 12 Eclipse high-density systems,' he added.
For this installation, Aegon chose the UK-manufactured 800 Series lateral range and specified most of these as three-drawer, 1,100mm-wide cabinets that provide three rows of A4 filing to fit front to back, delivering a density of 1.2 linear metres per drawer.
This provides an increased paper-filing density of more than 30 per cent greater than the equivalent 1,000mm-wide drawers incorporating side-to-side filing.
This increased density resulted in savings in both floor space and cost.
KI's 900 Series flush-front pedestals were provided at the workstations, offering continuity of engineering and design across the storage package and featuring suited keys and locking between the laterals and the pedestals.
