For those planning a loft conversion, David Garrity, managing director of Easy Heat, explains how electric water-filled radiators can enable homeowners to make the best use of the new living space.

According to Garrity, summer is an ideal time for taking on big home improvement projects, such as a loft conversion.

Loft conversions are one of the most cost-effective ways to gain extra space in the home - whether it is for a guest bedroom, making room for a family to grow or just creating a relaxing space.

With 25 per cent of employees working flexitime and approximately 3.1 million home workers in the UK, home offices are also becoming a prominent domestic feature and transforming the loft means that work will not take up the dining room table or interfere with family life.

Garrity claims that electric water-filled radiators enable homeowners to keep installation and running costs to a minimum.

Installing a new heating system in a room can be an expensive, messy and time-consuming job, he said.

However, electric water-filled radiators are designed to be quick and simple to fit, enabling homeowners to install the systems themselves without hiring a plumber or an electrician.

Although each radiator looks like one found in a conventional central heating system, inside it contains its own mini boiler, water and pump, thereby eliminating the need to install pipework to attach it to an existing boiler.

The brackets supplied are fixed to the wall; the radiator is hung on them and is then plugged into any standard 13A socket for instant heat.

The radiators can be fitted anywhere where there is access to a plug socket.

The room can also be decorated prior to fitting a radiator, thereby eliminating the task of painting behind it.

If a homeowner decides to redecorate in the future, the radiator can be unhooked from its brackets.

Each radiator offers precision heating control for the room in which it is installed.

If used as a guest room, visitors can adjust the temperature to suit their particular needs, without affecting the heating in the rest of the home.

If used as a home office, the user can choose to heat that room alone, as opposed to in a conventional central heating system when all the radiators in a property would have to come on to achieve this, thereby reducing the fuel bill.

Finally, if used as a nursery, the homeowner can make sure the room is at the right temperature for a baby or a small child.

The system can also be turned off when not in use or during the warmer months, without causing it any harm or damage.

It also requires no annual service or maintenance, thus reducing running costs.

Easy Heat radiators are available in 14 different sizes, with prices starting at GBP389 per radiator.
