Dupont Corian surfaces specified for champagne bar

Shaun Clarkson has created a champagne bar on the fifth floor of Harvey Nichols' London flagship store using high-performance Dupont Corian solid surfaces.

This new venue is an exclusive collaboration between Harvey Nichols and champagne producer Perrier-Jouet and the inspiration for the scheme is the decorative anemone design of the Cuvee Belle Epoque bottle.

The circular bar forms the focal point of the interior and is covered with a curving, seamless surface made from Dupont Corian in Glacier White.

This feature offers an extra aesthetic dimension in the form of a strip of backlighting around the circumference, exploiting the enhanced translucency of the material.

This lighting effect can phase through as series of tones to harmonise with the key colour accents of the decor.

Against a background motif of crisp, fresh white, these accents of pink and green also feature as upholstery on the chairs and bar stools and also as an inlay effect of Grape Green within Glacier White on the tabletops, also made from Dupont Corian.

Clarkson said: 'Corian was ideal for the bar and tabletop applications as it is a really marvellous material, with the quality of marble yet malleable, seamless and repairable.

'We have programmed the light ring in the bar to alter between pink, green, violet and white at the touch of a button,' he added.
