Christopher Guy predicts the emergence of a sophisticated style of furniture for 2010, inspired by everything from Alice in Wonderland to candy colours and Middle Eastern influences.

After a year of careful consumption and toned-down luxury in 2009, Christopher Guy believes that 2010 will be a more confident year.

Furniture design is said to be playing with oversized and whimsical creations, which is reflected in bright colours, chairs that envelop us and that are big enough to seat two and large dramatic mirrors

A new sophisticated style is evident in the trend for a touch of the fantastical, pastel shades, sumptuous fabrics and intricate detailing.

For instance, after the Maharaja trend in 2009, the strong geometric patterns of Arabian architecture and design are coming through with the rich culture of the Middle East influencing design.

A Christopher Guy mirror in a Moorish-style features an ornamental motif using an ordered repetition of radiating structures and rhythmic interwoven patterns.

The design has been hand carved and is available in a variety of finishes and glass types, with sizes measuring up to 140cm for a dramatic statement.

The Model 50-2832 Moorish-style mirror, measuring 112 x 112cm to 140 x 140cm, is priced from GBP1,451 including VAT.

In addition, according to Christopher Guy, studs have transcended from the fashion catwalk onto the interiors platform.

Metallic-stud detailing combined with tweed and taupe fabrics represents a throwback to British style.

The studded upholstered furniture adds a luxe element on armchairs and elegant dining chairs.

The Model 60-0251 stud-detailed chair from Christopher Guy retails from GBP2,795 including VAT.

It measures 122cm in width, 94cm in depth and 76cm in height.

Also emerging in 2010 are delicate pastel shades, including subdued blues, pale lilacs and soft rosy pinks in silk and velvet.

These tones are described as being feminine in colour and work well against darker colours such as chocolate brown and charcoals for a strong look.

The Model 60-0095 ottoman from Christopher Guy is priced from GBP824 including VAT.

The ottoman measures 41cm in width, 41cm in depth and 43cm in height.

With the launch of Tim Burton's film recreation of Alice in Wonderland in March 2010, furniture design is playing with oversized and whimsical creations.

This is reflected in bright colours, chairs that envelop us and that are big enough to seat two and large dramatic mirrors.

Furniture is said to be breaking away from unconventional shapes and oversized proportions.

The Model 60-0243 Love Seat from Christopher Guy is priced from GBP5,304 including VAT.

It is available in a selection of fabrics, colours and finishes and measures 184cm in width, 107cm in depth and 192cm in height.

Purple, in all spectrums including violet, indigo, iris, lavender and plum, continues to be on trend in 2010.

The darker regal hues add colour and warmth while the paler shades such as lavender are softer and more feminine.

The Model 60-0256 sofa from Christopher Guy is priced from GBP5,383 including VAT.

It is also available in a selection of fabrics, colours and finishes and comes in two sizes: with a width of 230cm, a depth of 107cm and a height of 97cm or with a width of 280cm, a depth of 107cm and a height of 97cm.
