Bespoke lighting provided for medieval restaurant

A Bruce Munro product story
Edited by the Interiorstalk editorial team Apr 21, 2010

Bruce Munro is providing a variety of lighting solutions for Archangel, a new restaurant in Frome, Somerset, which is due to open in June 2010.

Archangel will offer a cosmopolitan style and hospitality; it is being renovated from an ancient coaching inn historically known as The Angel.

Some parts were added in the 18th century, such as the Naval Room and the Library with their generously proportioned windows.

Owners Simon and Louise Waterfield have hired architect Piers Taylor of Mitchell Taylor Workshops in Bath.

One of the most unusual and striking features of Archangel will be the medieval 'street', which extends from the front door back through a number of stables and coaching buildings.

Taylor is encasing this street under a glass roof in a contemporary styling to emphasise the ancient features.

Archangel will comprise several rooms and a large garden, a dining room, two further private dining rooms and six bedrooms with en-suite baths.

The interior design is being carried out by Niki Turner, a theatre and opera designer, with help from owner Louise Waterfield.

The lighting will include some special bespoke pieces by Munro.
