Lighting sculptures to be installed at cathedral
The Art and Exhibitions Committee at Salisbury Cathedral has invited artist and lighting designer Bruce Munro to exhibit two large installations in and around the cathedral.
Munro's Light Shower will be a light-as-gossamer installation, with 2,000 points of light designed for the spire crossing inside the cathedral.
It will be installed in mid-November 2010 and will remain in place until March 2011.
Water-Towers, meanwhile, is a large, maze-like piece made of recycled materials and lit with low-energy light-emitting diodes.
Munro will install it along two sides of the cloisters surrounding the cathedral, which were built between 1240 and 1270.
Water-Towers will be installed in early January 2011 and remain in place for three months.
According to Munro, the colourful Water-Towers installation will look like a large stained-glass window.
